Reply with quote | #21 | My dd hopes to be attending the local university next year - it's really the only school that offers what she's looking for.
She just had her commencement last Friday.
She's doing another semester of highschool to get a co-op credit under her belt and pick up a couple more senior credits.
Unlikely she'll be moving out in the near future going if she's going to the local university. She's hoping for early acceptance in January.

Reply with quote | #23 | I just found this thread! My dd will graduate next June. She took her first ACT last spring and bombed it. She is a good student, B average but a terrible test taker. It doesn't help that the high school she attends is full of high and over achievers so even with a B average she is no where near the top 50 percent.
She was stressed out and wondering what 4 year college would accept her. So after tutoring in an ACT prep class for countless hours over the summer, she took the test in September and raised her score 5 points! High enough for automatic admission into the 4 year colleges she was considering. She has already applied to them all and received an acceptance from one already!
We are so proud of her hard work, and it's a really good lesson for her that things can turn around if you work hard and keep trying.

Reply with quote | #24 | danceandcheermom - Isn't it great when they receive that first acceptance? It's like the weight of the world is off of their shoulders. I guess its the mindset no matter what else happens at least they are in college!!!
We are still waiting for 4 more decisions - My dd got into her first acceptance letter about three weeks ago to her #2 pick with a wonderful scholorship! __________________ "Life isn't about how you survive a storm; its about learning to dance in the rain" |

Reply with quote | #25 | That's exactly what it feels like. After she got the better ACT score, the stress level in this house when down a ton, everyone felt it even the younger dd's. The acceptance letter was the icing on the cake.
Now rather then stress out during her senior year, she can actually relax and have fun with it. She has friends that have not applied anywhere yet, and one just took the ACT last weekend, so it'll be weeks before she even knows the score! I guess those poor kids are stressed and crabby __________________ The difference between try and triumph is a little umph! |

Reply with quote | #26 | I am off to University Open Houses with her tomorrow and on the weekend as DD tries to make up her mind where to go and what to take. She is considering my same career path at the same University so I am excited for that and to see how the campus has changed in 20 years! I think it's a good idea to tour the campus and residence to help get a feel for things in making your decision. Is anyone else doing this? |

Reply with quote | #27 | We did this back in August. We visited 5 colleges in three different states it was a crazy trip (but a good time). I definately recommend visiting the colleges. One which my dd wanted to attend was crossed off her list within 10 minutes of being there. She did apply to one which we didn't have a chance to visit yet but if accepted we will.
Have fun - it is such an exciting experience! __________________ "Life isn't about how you survive a storm; its about learning to dance in the rain" |

Reply with quote | #28 | My dd is a junior and went to her first college fair in October. She actually was impressed by a college that wasn't on her original list and now is in the top 2. She is now looking at Ball State and Slippery Rock. One school we were looking had a recruiter who didn't even know they had dance as a major, he had to look it up when I told them they did. Guess it isn't that well-known of a major, which to me says a lot about the program if the recruiter isn't even aware of it's existence. We will do our first college visit to Slippery Rock in a few months, just happens we will be in Pennsylvania anyway that weekend and will add the visit in while there. All the recruiters we talked to said narrow it down junior year and start the visits then have several to apply to senior year. |
