Reply with quote | #1 | My DD and her friends are LOVING their classes at BDC this week and having an absolute blast in NYC! They are among the youngest dancers taking classes, but holding their own quite nicely. We've also covered a lot of real estate this week via our feet and the subway! __________________ LJ |

Reply with quote | #2 | Good for you...and the girls! We went to NYC last summer and loved BDC. My 10dd sees the adds in the magazine or Mia Michaels on tv and feels connected now.
Have you checked out Canal St. vending? My mom and I both got some great bags there. We got the inside scoop on "how to do it" from a native that sat next to us on the plane...just don't got after 5PM. At that time the streets cleared and it was a little spooky. |

Reply with quote | #3 | We went to BDC over Memorial Day weekend. My dd wanted to celebrate her "Sweet 16" birthday in NYC by taking more dance classes. We also had a blast. I think my dgt ended up taking 5 classes while we were there. The teachers are all amazing and all so nice and approachable. We saw 3 shows too. We loved walking through Little Italy, I had never been through there before. The weather was perfect and the open air dining was wonderful. There is always so much to do. |

Reply with quote | #4 | I did get the scoop on Canal St from a friend who visited NY a few years ago. She came home with hefty bags full of purses for her friends and family - LOL!
We came home today but had a great week. DD's favorites were in the jazz funk/hip-hop categories. We saw Chicago, went up to the top of Empire State Building, saw Rock Center, Fifth Avenue, Central park, Lincoln Center. We rode the subway to Ground Zero site and yesterday to the Village. Had the best slice of pizza ever on Bleeker St.
It's good to be home, but it's so QUIET!!

Reply with quote | #6 | Any recommendations on specific classes/teachers at broadway dance? We are planning a trip this summer and plan on making BDC one of our days. DD probably would most be interested in jazz, lyrical and ballet. |

Reply with quote | #8 | Dd is dancing in NYC this August. I'm joining her with my other d's at the end of her intensive. I'll have to check out some of the shopping areas you have mentioned - oh, and we'll do some sightseeing too! __________________ "Contemporary choreography asks the dancer to look outside the box, beyond perfect form, to see the qualities movement itself can possess." - Unknown |

Reply with quote | #9 | DD's favorite teachers were Rhapsody, Jamie, Chio, Slam, and a teacher named Anthony Garza who was subbing and also teaches at the Edge in LA.

Reply with quote | #10 | Sorry to highjack here, but figured you might have heard this at BDC. Is it true next year BDC is taking young dancers to Italy? __________________ scott |

Reply with quote | #12 | I think just about all the teachers we have ever had at BDC are wonderful. They all seem so approachable, no egos, and are easy to talk to. They are very encouraging and truly seem to love what they do. We have made several trips to NYC to take classes and always have such a wonderful experience. My DD favorite classes have to be the Theatre ones. |

Reply with quote | #13 | My dd had a great experience with Derek ???. He teaches "street jazz". It is kind of hip-hoppy, but not and very heavy in tech! He was a awsome with the kids! I think he is doing their traveling workshops this summer too.

Reply with quote | #16 | Check out their website. If you bring in a group with various ages and abilities you may need to split them up per appropriate class. It may take planning. We had a bunch of girls take a character class with Mme. Darvash, who only taught to strong dancers. She is retired now - sadly IMHO. Also, they may want some advance warning to help with shuffling ages about the studio to avoid injury/or child getting separated from the gorup kinda thing. __________________ "Perhaps loving something is the only starting place there is for making your life your own." Reply with quote | #17 | Our DT called no more than 2 weeks before we went out. We only had a small group of 7 dancers taking classes and our youngest was 13. It's good to get info about levels and available classes so You don't have to clog up the lobby when you arrive.
Have fun - our kids sure did! __________________ LJ |
