I'm looking for a 1930s-1940s era, Harlem swing type song for dd9's tap solo. We liked It Don't Mean A Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) but I'm afraid that might be overdone. Something similar to that though. Appreciate any thoughts!

I think Don't Mean a Thing is a very good choice.

I like I've Got Rhythm. You would have to pick a good version.  This one definitely has that swing.

Check out Jack White.  He has a lot of swing jazz type songs.  Some of them might be too mature for your taste though.  DS did I'm Shakin about 4 years ago and there was some good music on that album.

There is also Sing Sing Sing -

You could probably find a more current remix of it.

I don't have a link, but you might like "Music, Music, Music."

It's the song that says, "Put another nickel in the nickel-nickelodeon..."

DD's tap group used a song a few years ago called "Shout and Feel it" which has a similar sound

DD's old studio was big on that type of tap, they used a lot of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.  I always enjoyed it. [smile]

What about something a little less well known.  DD tapped to "I Wanna Swing" from Diary of a Mad Black Woman by Cheryl Pepsi a couple of years ago but it's only about 2 minutes long.  Also have a listen to "Oh My My" by Jill Barber.  Lots of open "air" for great tap sounds to come through.  Good luck!

I was going to suggest the same. They have a lot of great songs to tap to.

I like Cute by Count Basie. The stops in the music allow the dancer to showcase clear and articulate tapping. DS tapped to it a couple of years ago and it was really well received.

My favorite genre ever!!! Oh how I wish my DD had a tap solo to something like this. Sing, Sing, Sing or Louis Primas Pennies from Heaven. Also:
