Just wondering, why would a teacher start an audition for an SI by asking which dancers have agents?

Hip hop.  They said they like to bring agents during the week.  So not sure if having one is a good or bad thing.

It was probably just a general question.  To find out how many, if any, dancers already did.  I wouldn't read into it too much.

As an off topic question, how common is it for a dancer to have an agent?

No, the agents would come to the actual intensive.  They were not at the audition.

It's pretty common in LA, I think.

Agents are for dancers seeking commercial work.

From what I have seen, they are competition dancers.  All styles...those winning top honors at comps.  Ages 10+.

We know many different kids who have agents and they are 4 or 5, a lot of these parents get their kid an agent SUPER young. From then on up, tons of kid dancers have agents here in LA and do commercial work for the agency. Some of my daughters best friends have agents. Ally kinds of dancers here get agents, Contemp, hip hop, tap dancers, free stylists, "trick dancers". There are 6 main dance agencies in LA and  Each agency usually hold auditions twice a year, and right now they are holding their winter auditions. DD is 19 and desperately trying to get an agent right now!! Her audition last weekend had over 400 dancers in one room [crazy].They cut them from a simple across the floor combo. She will always keep trying!
