I finally caught up an this tread and I have to say this:
When you make a commitment to a team or a dance or a job or whatever...you should follow through.
There are times when emergencies arise or it is better to miss because the dancer will be a detriment to themselves and the others due to physical or emotional state.
As a person who directs and produces theatrical productions,I can tell you 100% that when even one person is missing or quits, it really puts a lot of work on everyone left behind, so there has to be some requirements for attendance.
BUT....when the child is still living at home and has to rely upon the parents to drive them back and forth, to put out the money and the parents still make decisions about where the children are and when, then it becomes difficult and unfair to blame and punish the child, so exceptions are made in those circumstances as well.
If parents want to teach responsibility and accountability, then they should make sure they and their children follow through all commitments for the year.
Now, cue crickets.... |
