Old studio, had class practices up until recital dress rehearsal, which was a all day affair with specific times to show up.
New Studio, 3 weeks of in studio rehearsals with different groups coming in to run dances once or twice a week. This week we had a 45 minute opening number dress rehearsal on wed, and have a 4 hour full dress researsal of the show tonight. Hoping the recital isnt going to be a 4 hour affair. LIttles have their show tomorow at 1:30, which we will miss. DD has to be at the venue to get ready at 4 (but we will be there early since another mom is doing her hair), show starts at 5.

Hope all goes well this weekend!
We've experienced a variety of recital weeks over the years. First studio, as a little one not on a comp team, it was all in studio class rehearsals. Dress rehearsal at the theater the day of the show, followed by the show. Once she moved up and started on a team and moved to the "big" show, additional in studio rehearsals were added with a few groups coming at once to run portions on the show. Tech rehearsal at the theater in sections. Did not have to sit through an entire run through of the show until it was actually run on performance day. There were several performances, but only the oldest 2 teams were in more than 1 show. Next studio, a ballet school, all pieces were rehearsed at the end of class. Sometimes, an additional rehearsal would be scheduled. There were 2 in studio rehearsals, one just for ballet numbers to be run and for the ballet finale to be staged. The second was a full in studio dress rehearsal with specific times to show up. On the performance day, there was an in theater tech/dress rehearsal before the show. Current studio has been a mix. It is a ballet school as well. All but the highest level had a ballet piece that was rehearsed during class time during the last 6-8 weeks of the year only. Additional rehearsals were scheduled for the piece that involved every level (and ended with all on stage). For the highest level, one piece was rehearsed during pointe class once a week and all other pieces had rehearsal times outside of class. There was a run through about 2 weeks in advance (yes, only 4-6 weeks after rehearsals even began) and then an actual tech week with full run throughs. Dress rehearsal was the day before the show and was a ticketed event. 4 performances followed with a gala performance with amazing guest artists (alumni and faculty). They also have multiple casts so dd never did all her pieces in one show. I think she had 6 total, but did anywhere from 3-5 in a performance. I only saw one of her pieces (one she only did once) at a rehearsal.

The dancers have a few Company rehearsals in studio for opening and closing numbers as well as Company dances (we have 4 companies , each Company has a ballet and a jazz routine and Company as a whole does an opening and closing number). Other than that we have a full dress rehearsal run through (all Company , comp, and rec routines) of the show in order. Dress rehearsal is tonight with 2 shows tomorrow ...11am and 6 pm.

We had two nights of tech and run through's, dances split half one night half second night. Two nights of dress rehearsal half one night half second night. Two nights of recital, full studio each show. Our solos and duets have a separate showcase.
All 6 nights we're held in the high school theater. Made for a long day. We had finale run through for 40 minutes before each recital show. Call for dress was 60 minutes before their numbers time. each number has a time slot. Call for tech was 30 minutes before their number. Call for recital was 4:50pm, then a 30 min run through at 5pm, we get them back at 5:30pm and the first acts start warming up and rehearsing. Show start @ 6:30pm. It ran until 9:30pm first night second night had awards and ran until 10pm.

Teams had rehearsals during classes for opening/closing numbers last few weeks. Tonight is Gem Show (Competition Teams), Saturday dress rehearsals 10am & 1pm, Sunday Recitals 2 & 6 pm. Our competition teams will do most of their dances in the Recitals, but these are for the Rec kids more.
Thank goodness Gem Show and Recitals are done! It was a L O N G weekend. Friday night show started late due to traffic and wrecks everywhere, which one of our seniors was in, sore but she is okay! Sunday recitals were so packed we sold out of tickets for the 2nd show. We have got to find a bigger area for the shows! Now a week off before camp/audition then technique and acro classes during the summer.
