Hi!  I'm very new here and am looking for some help with music selection.

I have a jazz duet with two 17 year old girls, the studio director has always taught this duet for comp and this year she has given it to me. The parents are super-excited that I'm teaching this class this year so I'm feeling a lot of pressure to hit this one out of the park so to speak.

They usually do better with a funky type of jazz, and have done Trouble for Me (Britney Spears)http://www.youtube.com . . ., Glam (Christina Aguilera) http://www.youtube.com . . . and songs like that in the past.

Any great ideas for me to use for this year? I'm desperate!!!

It will probably be overused this year, but what about Applause by Lady Gaga?

Thanks for the suggestion, I love Applause by Lady Gaga (and so do the girls), but I think you're right about it being over-used.

Any other ideas out there?

What type of feel are you going for?

They are used to a more funky style of jazz with fast, upbeat music (they wouldn't do well with a slower jazz song).  They are students who struggle with flexibility and turn out (only started taking ballet a couple of years ago when they joined the comp team and it was a requirement) and although we work every week on improving these things we try to play to their strengths (which tends to be sharp, funky movements rather than slow and flowing).

Are you wanting a 'jazz"  sound or more of a current pop feel to the music?

I would say more of a pop feel, not traditional jazz-type music.
