My DD's fist solo was at age 7, she did Once Upon a December.  It was precious.  Her next solo, though, was to If I Wrote a Note to God by Jojo (although I think another artist bought the rights to it now... someone who got YouTube famous for a minute from singing it).  It was a beautiful dance, very age appropriate, very well received by judges.

We had a mini soloist who danced to "Note to God" and it was very well-received too!

My daughter's first solo was last year from the An American Girl: Saige Paints the Sky soundtrack - the song was "Always Believe In Me". It was beautiful and age-appropriate.
