DD's costume this year has a "tail" made of a feather boa. Two problems: 1 the feather is very light and gets static very easily on stage. So she had a explosive tail moment on stage lol. 2. the feathers keep falling off. Any idea how to deal with this? Some mom from my studio said hair spray, but what kind, extra hold, strong hold, soft hold? I don't want to loose the soft texture of the feather either! Thanks for any help!

Hair spray is amazing for static! I use "Got2B" glued hair spray- very strong. The only concern that I would have is the feathers becoming too stiff? If that's even a concern- maybe test on one?

I would just use any old alcohol based hair spray. I would start with one or two thin layers of fine mist, let it dry and see if it helps and add more as needed.

We have tail feathers this year!!
We had shoulder feathers last year for a group and they were everywhere. We really didn’t do much and they lasted for the season.
I’m collecting what falls off just Incase I need to re attach but in my head that doesn’t make sense. How the heck would I do that? If we loose too much I will ask the costume maker for more I guess.

We had tailfeathers two years ago. She molted a lot but you never could tell on the costume. I had a backup boa in case we needed to fix it mid season but we didn’t. We never did anything special to it.

Have people ready to sweep / pick up after each performance. Nothing more annoying than leaving them for the dance comp staff to clean up (if they even notice).
OK there are things more annoying than that, but that's another thread.
