Somehow we ended up snark-watching Miss America last night.  I think 6 or 7 of the contestants danced for their talent.  Anyone else watch?  It was...interesting!  (to be fair, as a former singer I was cringing at the singing, too)

I was surprised at how many danced last night! It's usually just two, but it was the majority last night.

Lots of cringing, though there were a few that clearly had some training. They are dancing cold with no warm up, so I try to be forgiving but still couldn't help cringing now and then.

I always snark on the talent, it's always super cheesy and often bad.  I will agree that it's a hard performance space.  It's small, the floors are terrible, the sound is generally pretty bad.

That pointe jazz piece though.  lol

That's last years pageant, the pageant last weekend was the 2018 pageant.

omg.  Those numbers look like something you'd see at Starquest.   How ridiculous competition dance looks when danced by an adult.

Ash and I watched "together" (her at college and me at home) and chatted back and forth on Snapchat and text.  I know winning is not everything, and that talent is only a portion of Miss America, but my most consistent thought as I watched the dances was "that would not have even placed at the intermediate level around here."  And while the arts are just getting stronger around here, were are no means a mecca like LA, NY or FL!

I was definitely an arm chair judge... we were at a relative's because we had to evacuate from the hurricane, and the difference in opinions of someone who is around dance and not was funny.

Yes, the ones I was talking about were the 2018 ones.

I'll admit, I was a little salty Miss Pennsylvania got eliminated after talent but the pointe girl made it thru.

Can you tell I never watch.  [smile]  I just assumed since it was 2017 it would be the 2017 pageant.

Me too! Her sax solo was much more enjoyable than most of those dance routines.

Wow.  What a bad year for dance at that show.  I'm going to "shut up" now since I have nothing nice to say.

It's part of pageantry. The judges know pageants at best and for talent, the tricks are what stand out in talent. They don't know how to judge dance, so the routines aren't going to have perfect technique.

Miss Colorado's mom is/was a member here... she did a PHENOMENAL baton routine during prelims (she wasn't chosen for the top 15)... woohoo!

Miss SC is my girl and she danced like an ANGEL. I couldn't say anything bad about her performance whatsoever!
