My 11yo DD's toes click. When she dances, when she walks, when she rolls over in her sleep. You can hear it from across the room. She's in a pre-professional ballet program and has been on pointe for almost a year. Clicking toes is normal -- or at least not unusual -- in a dancer, right, because the ligaments are so much looser? Her father, the alarmist, is about to haul her off to an orthopedic doc friend of ours.

She has no pain or other symptoms? It's just that her toes crack (like cracking a joint)? If dad has an orthopedist friend, he should just run it by him before making an appointment and wasting time and increasing unnecessary worrying. Joint cracking is meaningless if there are no other issues.

No discomfort at all, just sound. It's exactly like cracking knuckles, only it requires no purposeful action on her part to produce the sound (unlike cracking one's finger knuckles).
