My 13 yo dd dances on her studio's competition team.  It is her passion.  A couple years ago she went through a really awkward dance phase.  I have no idea what happened but she just couldn't keep up and everything she tried to do was a hot mess.   She ended up not making a competing team and was devastated.  Since then she's been working even harder, taking private lessons and started dancing more while attending a PA magnet school.  She finally made the studio's company last season in their lower level company team (there are 3 levels to company).  She was thrilled.  She just had auditions for the next season and was very worried bc she aged out of the lower level company and had to make the next one or else not compete.  I am thrilled to say she made the mid-level company team!  Not only that but she competed with the Jr modern team last season for the 1st time and tried out for both the lower and upper teams this time around.  She made the Sr. modern team!!!  There's 1 girl younger than her, 2 other girls her age and the rest of 16 are older girls...the girls she's been looking up to for years.  She is thrilled to be dancing with them!

I am so proud of her and all the hard work she's been putting into dance.  She's going to miss dancing with the girls who didn't or couldn't move up with her but she is so excited to see what this season brings.  Esp modern...she's been in awe of the Sr modern team and now she's part of it. [biggrin]

I remember when she went through her awkward phase.  Just goes to show you that hard work pays off just as much as natural talent.  Congrats!

I think a lot of preteens go through a phase like that but at varying ages within that span. Congrats to her on working hard and getting past that!
